At Brighton State School, we believe that sport plays a vital role in the balanced development of our students, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and school spirit. We offer a range of sporting opportunities for students to participate in, both competitively and for enjoyment.
Interschool Sports
Students in Years 4 to 6 have the opportunity to represent Brighton State School in the Bramble Bay District Interschool Sport competitions. Our teams compete in a variety of sports, fostering a sense of teamwork and school pride.
Swimming Program
In Term 4, students from Prep to Year 6 participate in an intensive swimming program at Sandgate Pool. This program focuses on building swimming skills and water safety awareness and culminates in an exciting swimming carnival where students can showcase their progress.
House system
Upon enrolment, students are allocated to one of our four sporting houses. This system encourages friendly competition and camaraderie among students, with all siblings belonging to the same house. Our houses are:
- Paterson (Green)
- Lawson (Yellow)
- Evans (Blue)
- Kendall (Maroon)
Athletics Carnival
The annual interhouse Athletics Carnival is a highlight of the school year, providing students with the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have developed during Physical Education lessons. Events include long jump, high jump, discus, shot put, sprints, and distance races such as the 200m and 800m.
Cross Country
Each year, our students participate in the school-wide Cross Country event, encouraging endurance and perseverance. This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to challenge themselves and support their house in a fun and supportive environment.
Touch Football Academy
Brighton State School is proud to offer a Touch Football Academy, providing students with the opportunity to develop their skills in this fast-paced and exciting sport. The academy focuses on skill development, strategic gameplay, and teamwork, offering specialised coaching and the chance to compete at higher levels.
